TOOTSIE
This is the newest member of our
LDR family. Stinky, filthy, sweet, soft and precious!!

The Stork is Coming!!!!!
This is Tootisie after
our wonderful groomer,
Jose, groomed her. He does such a
beautiful job and how he was able to NOT strip her down to the skin, we'll
never know.
After a visit to our good Dr.
Wisler, at Arbor Animal Hospital, we realized that our gentle, sweet, 6
pound, Tootsie, a Shorkie (Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix) was carrying quite a
"load" of "Little Tootsies". Her x rays show that she has 3 babies and
in order for the calcium (spines and skulls) to show up on xray, they have
to be at least 40 days old. The gestation period for a dog is 9 weeks, so
we're looking at her whelping in approximately 2-3 weeks.

Stay tuned. We'll keep you
posted.
We are not accepting
applications for Tootsie nor her babies, at this time.
1/1 Update
We've cleaned out all the
worms and Tootsie's now eating and feeling MUCH better. Her little backbone
and ribs are disappearing and she's gained 11 ounces!!! She's learning to
love chicken, turkey, bits of cheese, a bit of scrambled eggs every morning,
and a touch of cottage cheese for her dessert.
The babies are squirmy and
(hopefully) happy. I think they were celebrating the New Year, because last
night, they were doing the jig.
It doesn't feel like these
babies are anywhere close to being ready to make an appearance.

Well, our little Tootsie is
showing all the signs of an imminent whelping, But it just doesn't "LOOK"
to me as though she's ready. But, a lot can happen in 24 hours. I've learned
in the many years of whelping puppies....never say never!!!
HER TEMP HAS DROPPED FROM 101 TO 98.....
She's starting to have milk now.
She's searching high and low to find an open closet to nest in, although we
have numerous little "caves" spread throughout the house, that she's been
nestled in all week. ( Now, it seems that only my closet will do)
She's not eating anything today.
She's EXTREMELY cuddly today.
These are all signs of
puppies arriving within 24 hours.
Here she is after having a
warm, cozy bath.
And snuggled in, having some
much deserved loving!!! Now, we wait..............
Needless to say, we won't be far apart from here on.

So far, 2 tiny boys, 40
minutes apart. Mom's doing great.

We have 3 tiny, precious boys.
All is well. More pics to follow.
I know these pictures aren't
very good, but please understand that they're taken inside of a very tiny
coat closet, in our entryway. We thought we had all the "hiding spots"
closed off.
Oh well, we'll continue in here and move everyone when the "Golden Event" is
done and all puppies are safe and sound.

All is well. Each baby has
gained 1/2 ounce and Tootsie is a wonderful mother. How lucky are we!!!

Our babies are growing. All is well, quiet and happy.
We trimmed toenails today.....a rather stressful event for a litter of only
7 days old. But, they did very well and Mom didn't have a heart attack.
What a delight this litter is!!!!

Oh Oh!!! It's happening to
me!! Are these turning into the cutest babies EVER?! They're changing from
little embryos to babies....and not just any babies.....the cutest EVER!!!!
I know...you may think I'm a bit prejudice.....NOOOOOO!!!
Their hair is
growing long, they're maturing...soon their eyes and ears will be
open.....
Soon they'll be going to college ....
Well, this may be a BIT of of
an exaggeration (maybe) , but they WILL be the smartest babies EVER to be born anywhere at
anytime!!
Stay tuned for more pictures
of our precious little boys!!!

Jan 31 Update
So, today, the babies are
almost 4 weeks old and maturing so quickly. They're (almost) up on their
legs, starting to play with one another, responding to sounds, looking for
attention, and very very cute. We've switched them over to an x pen with
bedding on one side and piddle pads on the other side. They're beginning to
leave the bedding side, when they have to potty. This is the first stage of
housebreaking because not pottying in their sleeping area is instinctive and
if they're kept very clean, they should be piddle pad trained very soon.
Mom is doing very well and
she's a wonderful mother.
Next step, weaning. Stay
tuned.
